President’s Message – June 2019

This new year is off to a great start with many wonderful things being done by the FBI Newark Citizens Academy Alumni Association (FBINewarkCAAA). I am very excited to start my term as President. I pledge to work with the FBINewarkCAAA Board, our membership, and the FBI Newark Division to represent our chapter proudly and professionally. Having the opportunity to work with you, the FBI Newark Divisions’ executive management, and their community outreach staff, SSA Luis Rodriguez, COS Kimberly McDonald, and COS Arnold Adams is certainly one of my greatest accomplishments.

The Spring 2019 FBI Newark Citizens Academy Class has recently begun. Our Board members provide a light dinner for each class and are present to meet and greet the new class members. It is so inspiring to see a new group of citizens that are interested in learning more about what the FBI does on a daily basis to keep our country safe. It is my sincere hope that upon graduation, the class members will join us in our efforts to continue FBI Newark CAAA’s educational outreach activities.

This coming June, our chapter will conclude a series of presentations of the FBI National program, “Chasing the Dragon.” Our organization’s involvement began in November 2018.  These presentations were made possible through the generosity of Lakeland Bank and Hackensack University Medical Center in collaboration with the Bergen Performing Arts Center. The purpose of this program is to raise awareness of the dangers of drugs and opioids for middle school students throughout New Jersey.

Membership meetings have been a huge success! Jared Maples, the NJ Director of Homeland Security, was our March 2019 meeting speaker. Director Maples gave an informative overview of the functions of his Department.

In conclusion, I am happy to announce that our chapter will be touring FBI Headquarters and visiting Quantico in November 2019. We will be partnering with the FBI Oregon Citizens Academy Alumni Association.   I am sure this will be one of our memorable and favorite alumni activities.

Our next member meeting is scheduled for June 17th, watch your email for more details. As our chapter continues to grow, I look forward to hearing from you. Our strength is your involvement!

Sincerely,

Edie Peters Liguori
